In case you missed the takeoff of ABC’s Pan Am this season, Sony Pictures Television is hoping viewers will take another look at the freshman drama series by offering all nine episodes aired this season for free. Plus, it’s offering two free songs from the newly released soundtrack.
“Just go from Episode 1 to Episode 9,†star Karine Vanasse, who plays French stewardess Colette, suggests. “At this time of the year, it’s colder outside and I think that people just love to sit in front of their screen and just go though an entire series without really stopping.â€
Additionally, the series’ soundtrack, Pan Am: Music From and Inspired By the Original Series, releases digitally Tuesday before it’s available on CD in stores Jan. 17. And Sony is offering two free song downloads from the soundtrack — Billie Holiday’s “Just One More Chance†and Brenda Lee’s “Break It To Me Gently.”
The drama series, which follows a flight crew during the “Jet Age†60s, was one of the more anticipated and promoted series of the fall season and represented Christina Ricci’s first foray into series television.
While it attracted 10.8 million viewers to its premiere, the series struggled to retain its audience over the following weeks. Last month, ABC ordered an additional five scripts – yet deprived it of the full season orders it gave to fellow freshman series, Once Upon a Time and Last Man Standing, at the time. The last new episode on Dec. 4 attracted 4.7 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among the coveted 18-49 audience. In offering the series for free at this time, the studio is clearly hoping to get the show more exposure and grow its audience.
“At a time of the year when audiences are away from their televisions and networks are in repeats, this is a great opportunity for people to watch and catch-up on Pan Am,†Sony Pictures Television’s U.S. Marketing SVP Chris Van Amburg says. “We’re confident that this promotion will generate enthusiasm for the show’s January 8th return on ABC.â€
