If the idea of Christina Ricci joining Bebe Neuwirth in Classic Stage Company’s coming production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream†isn’t sufficiently tantalizing on its face value, think of it as the coming together of extended members of the Addams Family.
The company said on Tuesday that Ms. Ricci would appear in that fairy-dusted Shakespeare play as Hermia, the diminutive but excitable Athenian, of whom her friend Helena says: “She was a vixen when she went to school; And though she be but little, she is fierce.†Ms. Neuwirth was previously announced to star as the fairy queen, Titania.
Ms. Ricci, who has starred on the ABC period drama “Pan Am†and had her Broadway debut last year in “Time Stands Still,†made her cinematic breakthrough as the sinister daughter, Wednesday, in the “Addams Family†movie and a sequel, “Addams Family Values.†Ms. Neuwirth originated the role of Morticia in the “Addams Family†Broadway musical; her credits include another series about an ad-hoc family of misfits and grotesques, the television comedy “Cheers.â€
The Classic Stage Company production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream†will be directed by Tony Speciale. It is to begin performances on March 28, and its limited run is scheduled to end May 6.
