ABC’s buzzworthy new fall drama Pan Am has hit a tiny patch of rough air en route to its fall premiere: Vulture hears that the show’s male lead, Israeli-born actor Jonah Lotan (Generation Kill), is being replaced. He had played a newly promoted Pan Am pilot in the first episode of the retro-cool series (which has been on Vulture’s radar for months) and our sources indicate a search has begun for a new actor to play the role. Such moves are fairly common in the months between the May upfront announcements and September’s premieres, and since Pan Am mostly revolves around Christina Ricci and her fellow stewardesses (and, let’s face it, you probably had no idea who Lotan was before you read this post), the departure is a relatively minor tweak.

Ironic that they think he isn’t well known enough. I know a large bunch of people who aren’t going to bother watching this series if Jonah Lotan gets replaced. He was in fact the drawcard.
